[#56]

Hey guys! So I’ve been having trouble sleeping on and off for a few months. I’ve tried lots of things like keeping a regular sleep schedule, staying away from screens before bed, and trying relaxation techniques like meditation and deep breathing, but nothing really seems to work.

Has anyone dealt with sleep deprivation and managed to beat it? If yes, what tricks or methods did you use to get back to sleeping well?

Not all that glitters is gold, but I’m going to take it just to be sure.

I have in the past. But never found anything that worked for me. I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with that.

I’ve summoned spirits, entities, etc. but apparently sleep is the one ghost that refuses to answer my call. 😅

Try this, lower the intensity of your thoughts and your energy. Check your breathing, try to slow it down to one inhale and exhale every five seconds. Go through your body and consciously relax all your muscles. Finally, stop focusing on getting to sleep and either let your mind wander or think about something that doesn’t require a whole lot of conscious problem solving, like remembering something. Focusing on sleep will energize the problem of not being able to sleep, and what most people don’t realize is that attention empowers, massively.

If possible try to get into a state of mind where you are just observing the thoughts that are going through your head, without reaction or judgement.

What you are trying to accomplish with this is:

  1. Telling your subsconscious and nervous system it’s safe to wind down.
  2. Inviting your subconscious to take the reigns as it does when sleep happens.

This is what I have to do in order to get my ADHD mind to calm down for sleep when it gets bad. I hope it helps.

Thanks for dropping this here, I really appreciate it.

That point you made about how focusing on the problem just energizes it is so accurate. It’s funny how I understand exactly how that works when I’m doing real spiritual work, but as soon as my head hits the pillow, I completely forget and start trying to force myself to sleep. You’re totally right—it just backfires and worsens the insomnia.

I really like the approach of just easing up and using that 5-second breath to literally signal the nervous system that it’s safe to shut down. My brain is always trying to problem-solve or plan the next day’s work, so consciously stepping back and just letting the subconscious take over feels exactly like the kind of hard reset I need.

Thanks again for taking the time to explain this. I’m definitely going to apply these mechanics tonight.

I must look into those things too. I have trouble sleeping a lot myself.

I know what you mean about knowing something and completely forgetting to apply it to a situation, I do it a ton myself.

Is your sleep better? I know it can take a bit of doing to identify the energies and patterns causing something like this.

Getting there, slowly but surely! You hit the nail on the head. It really took some trial and error to untangle what was actually out of balance. I really took your advice to heart about not focusing so hard on falling asleep. You were so right about how giving it attention just empowers the problem. Doing the slow breathing and consciously relaxing my muscles definitely helps signal to my nervous system that it’s safe to wind down. But the missing piece for me was the physical side. It basically came down to burning off that excess energy. Getting out hiking and staying super active during the day has been the game-changer. My body gets so worn out that it literally has no choice but to sleep and reset. Combining that physical exhaustion with your mental wind-down tricks at night is finally working!

I go from lack of sleep to sleeping all the time. No in between for me at times. So I can relate.
