That makes complete sense, and honestly, your journey clearly illustrates the point. You actually received that formal training first. Alexandrian Witchcraft and Dragon Rouge provided you with the foundational map or safety manual.

Once you have that solid baseline built in, your solo work is where the biggest breakthroughs will happen. You already knew how to navigate safely thanks to your prior training. You weren’t just guessing in the dark; you were using the tools you learned and finally building your own house.

I can definitely relate to that shift as well. To clarify my background in lineages and communities, I’m still technically part of two Ifa lineages, but I’m no longer active in the community. My Baba had some issues with his second lineage. He’s still okay with the first one, but honestly, ever since the Oluwo (elder) in our lineage passed away, everyone just seemed to get busy and focus on their own personal lives.

At this point, the only group I’m still actively participating in is AMORC, mostly because their system is based heavily on studying the monographs and online interactions, which makes it a lot easier to manage on my own time.

So yeah, the risk I was talking about is mainly for folks who try to jump straight into intense solo work without ever learning those basic safety keys first. But I totally agree with you—once you understand the fundamentals from a structured system, creating your own unique path leads to the best discoveries. Each to their own, for sure!

Not all that glitters is gold, but I’m going to take it just to be sure.

Excellent advice!

Taking myself as an example, my point was this: I did’nt receive any ”formal training” or any initiation until about 2005 onwards. That being said, I had been practising since 1985 when I was 17. If you wait around for a Teacher and initiation, then you could be waiting a very long time – if one ever shows up. As long as a student sticks with the basics and does’nt dive into complex operations without training, then they should not be warned to away from practicing solo.

Gotcha! That’s exactly what I was getting at earlier when I mentioned “swimming on the surface.”

I definitely agree that no one should just sit around twiddling their thumbs waiting for a mentor to magically appear—especially since, like you said, that could take forever. Building your own foundational practice safely for all those years before getting initiated is exactly the right way to do it.

My warning was really just aimed at the folks who try to dive straight into the deep end—like attempting complex evocations or heavy energetic operations on day one—without knowing how to protect themselves. But as long as people are sticking to the basics, using common sense, and pacing themselves? 100% yes, absolutely. We’re totally in agreement there!
